- 1 cup warm milk (110°F or 45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
Dough: Dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes. Add the rest of the sugar, melted butter, salt, eggs, and flour to the yeast mixture. Knead until smooth. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Cream Cheese Swirl: Beat the cream cheese with sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the dough. Roll it up tightly and cut into 12 equal slices.
Place the slices in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Vanilla Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over warm buns and dust with powdered sugar.
